Your safari begins in Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s hidden gems and one of the best places in East Africa to see large herds of elephants in their natural environment. The park is famous for its ancient baobab trees, rolling savannah, seasonal wetlands and the life-giving Tarangire River that attracts thousands of animals each year. You will have two days to explore this incredible ecosystem and your family will have plenty of time to see elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, wildebeests, impalas, warthogs, ostriches and more than 550 species of birds recorded. Tarangire offers a peaceful atmosphere and an outstanding density of wildlife, making it the perfect introduction to your Tanzanian safari.
The journey proceeds towards the legendary Serengeti National Park, one of the world’s most renowned wildlife destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As you travel through the breathtaking Ngorongoro Highlands you will descend into the endless plains that have made the Serengeti famous across the globe. The Serengeti, covering almost 15,000 square kilometres, is one of the largest concentrations of wildlife on the planet, offering outstanding game viewing at any time of the year. Over 3 spectacular days, your family will discover different areas of the park and search for the renowned Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and black rhino) plus cheetahs, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, zebras, a multitude of antelope species and over 500 bird species.
If you come during migration season, your family will also witness the spectacular Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. One of the most extraordinary wildlife shows on Earth takes place in the Serengeti ecosystem as millions of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles cross it in search of fresh grazing. Even outside the migration season, Serengeti is one of Africa’s most beautiful safari destinations and offers incredible wildlife experiences every day.
After your Serengeti adventure, you will journey through the magnificent Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its spectacular volcanic landscapes, abundant biodiversity and the harmonious coexistence of wildlife and the Maasai people. Enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the famous Ngorongoro Crater before proceeding to the lush farming town of Karatu where you’ll spend a quiet evening preparing for the last day of your safari.
One of the highlights of this itinerary is the opportunity to visit the remarkable Hadzabe Tribe, one of the last hunter-gatherer communities in Africa. For thousands of years, the Hadzabe have lived along the shores of Lake Eyasi, clinging to their traditional way of life. This authentic cultural experience will teach your family their hunting techniques, survival skills, traditional customs, language and their deep connection with nature. This unforgettable experience gives children and adults alike a rare opportunity to gain an understanding of one of the world’s oldest living cultures and a deeper appreciation for Tanzania’s rich cultural heritage.
