5 Day Tanzania Private Safari
Overview
Experience the incredible diversity of Northern Tanzania on this unforgettable 5 Days Tanzania Private Safari, a journey that combines lush mountain forests, exciting walking safaris, one of the world’s great natural wonders and the endless plains of the Serengeti filled with wildlife. This itinerary has been thoughtfully crafted for travellers wanting an authentic, immersive safari experience that includes three of Tanzania’s most popular national parks and offers you the opportunity to travel at a leisurely pace with your own private guide and vehicle.
Your journey begins at Arusha National Park, one of the most scenic and underrated wildlife destinations in Tanzania. Located at the foot of Mount Meru, the park offers a wonderful diversity of scenery from tropical montane forests to open savannahs, gentle hills, shimmering lakes, volcanic craters and the lovely Momella Lakes all within a fairly compact area. Arusha National Park is one of the few parks in Tanzania where you can enjoy a guided walking safari. This means you can walk through the African wilderness with the protection of an armed ranger. Most of Tanzania’s national parks don’t allow this. Experiencing nature at first hand, walking amongst giraffe, zebra, buffalo, warthogs and antelope, gives you a whole new perspective of the African bush and makes for an unforgettable start to your safari.
Next up, the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most amazing wildlife destinations. The crater was formed over two million years ago when a giant volcano collapsed and is now the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and one of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the continent. From the crater floor, a 600-meter descent opens up to an incredible natural sanctuary where lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, hyenas, jackals, flamingos and countless other species flourish all year round. The crater is also one of Tanzania’s best places to see the endangered black rhinoceros, making it one of the few places where visitors have a great chance to see all members of the legendary Big Five in a single game drive.
After a tour of the crater, your safari continues to the world famous Serengeti National Park, which is synonymous with African wildlife and stunning scenery. The Serengeti is home to some of the best game viewing on earth, in a landscape of endless plains, granite kopjes, acacia woodlands and winding river systems, covering almost 15,000 square kms. It is internationally famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration when more than two million wildebeests, followed by zebras and gazelles, move across the ecosystem in search of fresh grazing. Depending on the time of year you may witness dramatic river crossings, the spectacular calving season or massive herds spread across the vast plains.
Even when not in the migration season, the Serengeti is one of Africa’s top safari destinations, because of its outstanding resident wildlife. On thrilling game drives you can meet large prides of lions, elusive leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, servals and hundreds of bird species. Two nights in the park afford the opportunity to fully appreciate its changing landscapes and the chance to observe wildlife during the cooler hours of the morning and late afternoon, when animal activity is often at its peak.
Travelling on a private safari ensures every element of your trip is tailored to your interests and pace. Your expert professional driver-guide will adapt each game drive to the wildlife movements, ensuring you the maximum chance for unforgettable sightings whilst sharing fascinating insights into Tanzania’s wildlife, ecosystems, conservation efforts and local cultures. You will travel throughout the safari in a comfortable 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser specially equipped for wildlife viewing, photography and long distance travelling.
You can choose to return from the Serengeti either on a scenic domestic flight that gives you spectacular aerial views of the wilderness of Tanzania, or by road through the amazing Ngorongoro Highlands. This itinerary offers the perfect mix of adventure, comfort and wildlife experiences that will never be forgotten. The 5 Days Tanzania Private Safari is a great introduction to the beauty of Tanzania and will create memories to last a lifetime. Perfect for couples, families, honeymooners, photographers and first time visitors.

FAQs
A private safari is a tailor-made wildlife experience where you travel exclusively with your family, friends or travel companions in a dedicated 4x4 safari vehicle with your own professional guide. Unlike group safaris you are in complete control, meaning you can linger as long as you want at wildlife sightings and move at your own pace.
Any time of the year is safari time in Tanzania. The dry season (June to October) is a great time for wildlife viewing and coincides with the Great Migration river crossings in Northern Serengeti. Southern Serengeti (Ndutu) hosts the spectacular Wildebeest calving season from January to March which visitors can witness. The green season is from November to May, with lush landscapes, fewer crowds and fantastic birdwatching.
Most private safaris explore Tanzania's famous Northern Circuit, including Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Arusha National Park, and cultural experiences around Mto wa Mbu, Lake Natron, or Materuni Waterfalls depending on your itinerary.
A 5-8 day safari is perfect for visiting Tanzania’s most famous parks. For visitors to Zanzibar or those interested in cultural activities, we suggest a 10 to 14 day itinerary for a more relaxed and comprehensive East African experience.
Tanzania is home to the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino—as well as cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, jackals, hundreds of bird species, and many other fascinating animals depending on the season and location.
Yeah. Private safari packages normally include all park entrance fees, Ngorongoro Crater service fees, concession fees (if any), government taxes and conservation charges. Your quote will clearly lay out everything that is included.
Tanzania offers accommodation for every budget, including comfortable mid-range lodges, luxury safari lodges, exclusive tented camps, and ultra-luxury properties. Your accommodation can be customized according to your travel style and budget.
Sure. Private safaris are ideal for families as the itinerary can be adapted to suit the children’s interests, pace of travel and preferred activities. Many lodges also offer family rooms and child-friendly services.
We suggest lightweight, neutral-colored clothing, comfortable walking shoes, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent, and a light jacket for cool mornings. Bring a camera, binoculars, personal medications, and a small daypack. Soft-sided luggage is recommended, particularly if you will be travelling domestically by air.
Yes. Combining a Tanzania safari with Zanzibar is one of our most popular holiday packages. After exciting wildlife adventures, you can relax on Zanzibar's white-sand beaches, explore Stone Town, enjoy snorkeling, diving, spice tours, or simply unwind by the Indian Ocean.
Most international visitors need a tourist visa, which you can get either online or when you arrive, depending on what country you come from. Vaccination for Yellow Fever is only required if you are arriving from or transiting through a country with Yellow Fever transmission. We also recommend that you discuss malaria prevention with your health care provider before travelling.
