Your adventure begins in Arusha, where you have the flexibility to travel to the Northern Serengeti either by road in a private 4×4 safari vehicle or by scheduled flight. Choosing to fly reduces travel time and allows you to reach the migration region quickly, while driving offers an adventurous journey through northern Tanzania’s changing landscapes. Whichever option you choose, the Northern Serengeti is where the main Great Migration experience begins.

The Northern Serengeti is particularly famous between approximately July and October, when enormous herds of wildebeest and zebras move through the region. During this period, the Mara River becomes an important obstacle along their journey. Thousands of animals may gather near the riverbanks before attempting to cross, creating one of Africa’s most dramatic wildlife spectacles. River crossings are completely natural and cannot be guaranteed, but spending a full day in the region provides excellent opportunities to follow the migration and observe the surrounding wildlife.

Beyond the migrating herds, the Northern Serengeti supports an impressive variety of resident animals. Lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos and different antelope species can be encountered, while leopards, cheetahs and spotted hyenas add to the excitement of game drives. Crocodiles inhabit the Mara River, and the remote character of the northern plains creates a remarkable sense of wilderness.

After exploring the north, your journey continues through Serengeti National Park toward the Central Serengeti. This is not simply a transfer day, as wildlife can be encountered throughout the journey. The landscape gradually changes as you travel toward the Seronera region, one of the most wildlife-rich areas of the park. Central Serengeti is particularly renowned for its large population of predators and offers excellent game viewing throughout the year.

From Central Serengeti, the safari continues toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. Descending onto the crater floor introduces another unique ecosystem where a remarkable concentration of wildlife lives within the walls of the ancient volcanic caldera. Lions, elephants, buffaloes, wildebeest, zebras, hippos and gazelles are commonly encountered, while the endangered black rhinoceros is one of the crater’s most prized sightings.

After the crater experience, you will continue to Karatu for a relaxing overnight stay before beginning your final safari day. The following morning, travel toward Tarangire National Park, another outstanding destination with a completely different environment.

Tarangire is famous for its impressive elephant population, ancient baobab trees and the Tarangire River, which provides an important water source for wildlife. Depending on the season, the park may support large concentrations of zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, buffaloes and various antelope species. Lions and other predators are also regularly encountered.

After your final game drive in Tarangire, you will continue toward Arusha and Kilimanjaro International Airport.
