Your safari begins in Arusha with a scenic drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey takes you through the beautiful landscapes of northern Tanzania before reaching one of Africa’s most remarkable natural attractions. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and supports an extraordinary concentration of wildlife throughout the year. Its grasslands, forests, wetlands and freshwater areas create a natural sanctuary for numerous species.

A game drive inside the crater provides opportunities to encounter elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, gazelles and several predators. Lions are commonly seen within the crater, while the endangered black rhinoceros remains one of its most sought-after sightings. After exploring the crater, you will continue to Karatu for an overnight stay surrounded by the peaceful highlands.

The following day, your adventure continues from Karatu toward the Central Serengeti. The journey takes you through the Ngorongoro highlands before descending toward the seemingly endless plains of Serengeti National Park. Central Serengeti, particularly the Seronera region, is renowned for its excellent year-round wildlife viewing and high concentration of predators. The area provides outstanding opportunities to encounter lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes and many other species.

From Central Serengeti, the safari continues north toward the remote wilderness of the Northern Serengeti. This journey allows you to experience the changing landscapes of the park while enjoying game viewing along the way. During the migration season, enormous herds of wildebeest and zebras move through the northern plains as they follow fresh grazing and water.

Between approximately July and October, the Northern Serengeti becomes one of the most exciting wildlife destinations in Tanzania. The migration herds are commonly found around Kogatende and the Mara River, where they may gather in large numbers before attempting to cross the river. These dramatic crossings are completely natural and cannot be predicted or guaranteed, but being in the migration region provides an opportunity to experience the enormous herds and the predators that follow them.

The Northern Serengeti is also home to abundant resident wildlife. Lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos and several antelope species can be encountered throughout the region. Leopards, cheetahs and spotted hyenas are also present, while crocodiles dominate sections of the Mara River. The combination of migration herds and resident wildlife creates exceptional opportunities for photography and memorable safari encounters.

Your final morning provides another opportunity to explore the Northern Serengeti before beginning the adventurous drive toward Kilimanjaro International Airport. Rather than returning through the conventional Serengeti route, you will travel via the Lake Natron road. This remote route introduces a completely different landscape of volcanic mountains, rugged valleys and traditional Maasai country.

Views of Lake Natron and Ol Doinyo Lengai may accompany your journey as you continue toward Arusha and Kilimanjaro International Airport.
