14 Day Tanzania Safari + Zanzibar Holiday
Overview
14 Day Tanzania Safari + Zanzibar Experience the very best of Tanzania on this unforgettable 14 Day Tanzania Safari + Zanzibar, a journey carefully crafted for travellers looking for the perfect combination of extraordinary wildlife encounters, authentic cultural experiences and ultimate beach relaxation. This itinerary takes you at a relaxed pace to see the most famous destinations, from the legendary landscapes of Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit to the pristine white-sand beaches of Zanzibar.
Your adventure starts in Arusha, the lively entrance to Tanzania’s renowned national parks. Nestled amongst lush coffee plantations and with the majestic Mount Meru as a backdrop, Arusha is the perfect place to begin your journey into the heart of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife areas. From here, you will travel on to the amazing Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s lesser-known treasures and a favourite with seasoned safari goers. Tarangire is famed for its ancient baobab trees, rolling savannahs and some of the best elephant viewing in East Africa all year round. Your safari will be rewarded from the very start with unforgettable game viewing opportunities. Large herds of elephants, graceful giraffes, lions, zebras, buffaloes, wildebeest and countless species of birds roam freely throughout the park.
Your journey continues to the lush highlands of Karatu where you’ll take part in one of Tanzania’s most fascinating cultural excursions. Head to the shores of Lake Eyasi where you will spend time with the remarkable Hadzabe Tribe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer communities in Africa. With local guides you will learn about their traditional way of life, hunting methods, survival skills and unique language that has been maintained for thousands of years. You will also visit the neighbouring Datoga Tribe, known for their exceptional blacksmithing craftsmanship and rich pastoral traditions. Such authentic cultural encounters enable a richer understanding of Tanzania’s diverse heritage and offer memorable experiences beyond the usual safari experience of wildlife.
From Karatu your adventure continues through the stunning Ngorongoro Conservation Area to drop down into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s greatest natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The crater is said to be the largest unbroken volcanic caldera and is home to one of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the continent. Here you will go in search of the legendary Big Five, watching elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos, flamingos, hyenas, gazelles and, if you are lucky, the endangered black rhinoceros in its natural habitat. The Ngorongoro with its dramatic scenery and extraordinary wildlife is one of the highlights of any Tanzanian safari.
Then you will head deep into the legendary Serengeti National Park for four unforgettable days exploring one of the greatest wildlife ecosystems in the world. The Serengeti’s vast golden plains are home to an amazing diversity of wildlife all year round and provide excellent opportunities to watch the predators and their prey in one of the most incredible natural settings. Depending on the time of year you may be lucky enough to witness the spectacular Great Migration as hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras cross the plains in search of fresh grazing, closely pursued by lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas. But even outside migration season, the Serengeti offers amazing game drives, stunning scenery and memorable photographic opportunities that make each safari different.
Following your incredible safari experience, you will take a scenic flight directly from the Serengeti to the tropical island of Zanzibar where the pace of life slows down and the Indian Ocean welcomes you with clear turquoise waters and powder-white beaches. Nungwi is one of the most beautiful coastal destinations of Zanzibar and your stay here gives you four full days to relax, recharge and enjoy the spectacular scenery of this island. Relax under swaying palms and listen to the gentle sound of the waves or spend your days swimming in the warm ocean, snorkelling colourful reefs of coral, sailing aboard traditional dhow boats, enjoying fresh seafood, exploring local fishing villages.
Whether you are celebrating a honeymoon, a family holiday, an anniversary or simply living out a life long dream of visiting Africa, this 14 Day Tanzania Safari + Zanzibar offers the perfect balance of thrilling wildlife adventures and tropical island relaxation. This itinerary combines some of Tanzania’s most famous safari destinations with rich cultural experiences and the world-famous beaches of Zanzibar, promising unforgettable experiences from start to finish. Tanzania is home to the famous Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and black rhino—as well as cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, antelopes, and over 1,100 bird species. Wildlife sightings vary depending on the season and destination.
Yeah. Tanzania is one of the safest safari destinations in Africa. You will be travelling with a licenced tour operator (Tanzaniatrail Experience Limited) and your guide will ensure your safety on the trip and will adhere to all the National Park rules.
We recommend lightweight neutral-coloured clothing, a light jacket for early mornings, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, a camera, and any personal medications. Soft-sided luggage is preferred for safari vehicles and domestic flights.
Safaris can be 2 to 14 days or longer. Most travellers opt for between 5 and 8 days to comfortably cover several national parks, but longer safaris offer more time to track the Great Migration or combine wildlife with cultural experiences and Zanzibar.
Sure. Many of our clients opt to end their safari with a relaxing beach holiday in Zanzibar. Domestic flights run daily and it is easy to combine the incredible wildlife of Tanzania with the white sand beaches and turquoise waters of Zanzibar.
Most international visitors require a Tanzanian tourist visa, usually available either online or on arrival, depending on nationality. We also recommend that you discuss recommended vaccinations and malaria prevention with your healthcare provider prior to travel.
Yeah. All our safaris are done in a private 4x4 safari vehicle with a professional English speaking driver-guide unless you specifically ask for a shared safari, so you can travel at your own pace and have a personalised safari experience.
