10 Day Tanzania Private Safari

10 Day Tanzania Private Safari

Overview

Enjoy the best of Northern Tanzania on this well-curated 10-day Tanzania Private Safari, a journey that combines spectacular wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, authentic cultural encounters and unforgettable outdoor adventures. This itinerary is for the traveller who wants to see Tanzania off the traditional safari circuit. The lush beauty of Arusha National Park, the elephant paradise of Tarangire National Park, the fascinating cultures of the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes, the endless plains of Serengeti National Park, the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater and the scenic diversity of Lake Manyara National Park.

Your adventure starts in Arusha, the gateway to the Northern Safari Circuit in Tanzania and then on to the stunning Arusha National Park, one of the country’s most scenic yet underrated wildlife destinations. The park is situated on the slopes of Mount Meru and hosts lush montane forests, open grasslands, sparkling Momella Lakes, volcanic craters and plenty of wildlife. One of its big draws is the fact that you can go on a guided walking safari and enjoy the African wilderness on foot but in the safety of an armed ranger. A walk with giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs and antelope provides a totally different view of the bush and memories that are not like a game drive.

Your journey continues to Tarangire National Park, the home of ancient baobab trees and some of East Africa’s largest elephant herds. During the dry season, the Tarangire River attracts thousands of animals and offers great opportunities for wildlife viewing. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, impalas, elands and over 550 bird species make every game drive exciting while the dramatic landscapes of the park give incredible opportunities for photography.

Your safari experience will be enhanced by a visit to the Hadzabe tribe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in Africa, and the nearby Datoga tribe with their excellent blacksmithing and traditional crafts. These authentic cultural experiences offer fascinating insight into two indigenous communities that have preserved their ancient customs, languages and lifestyles for generations. To see wildlife is not the only memorable experience; walking with the Hadzabe to learn their hunting techniques and watching the Datoga practise their traditional metalworking are also unforgettable.

The crown jewel of your journey is three unforgettable nights in the legendary Serengeti National Park, one of Africa’s greatest wildlife destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Serengeti is one of the richest concentrations of wildlife on earth spread over an area of almost 15,000 square kilometres of endless plains, granite kopjes, acacia woodlands and winding rivers. It is known worldwide for the Great Wildebeest Migration, when more than two million wildebeest, zebras and gazelles move across the ecosystem in search of fresh grazing. Seasonally, you will see dramatic river crossings, calving seasons or massive herds as far as the eye can see.

But even without the migration, the Serengeti is one of the best places to see wildlife all year. This amazing ecosystem is home to large prides of lions, elusive leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, jackals, servals and hundreds of bird species. Staying for 3 nights will allow you to see various parts of the park, and you will have a better chance of coming across some amazing wildlife as you enjoy spectacular sunrises and sunsets over the endless savannah.

You then head off on safari to the stunning Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s best-known natural wonders and the largest intact volcanic caldera on earth. This UNESCO World Heritage Site contains one of the highest concentrations of wildlife anywhere on the continent and offers one of the best chances to see the Big Five, including the endangered black rhinoceros, on a single game drive.

Before you finish your adventure, you will visit the beautiful Lake Manyara National Park, with its lush groundwater forest, alkaline lake, tree-climbing lions, large troops of baboons, elephants and incredible birdlife. These different habitats make a fitting end to an exceptional safari, which has showcased the incredible variety of Northern Tanzania.

You will travel in a private 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser specially outfitted for safari adventures with an experienced professional driver-guide dedicated solely to your safari. A private safari means the best in comfort and personal service, the freedom to travel at your own pace, to spend more time observing the wildlife and to tailor game drives to your interests.

This 10-day Tanzania private safari is perfect for wildlife lovers, photographers, honeymooners, families and adventure seekers. It is a journey of unforgettable wildlife encounters, rich cultural experiences, breathtaking landscapes and authentic African hospitality that will create memories that last a lifetime.

FAQs

A private safari is a tailor-made wildlife experience where you travel exclusively with your family, friends or travel companions in a dedicated 4x4 safari vehicle with your own professional guide. Unlike group safaris you are in complete control, meaning you can linger as long as you want at wildlife sightings and move at your own pace.

Any time of the year is safari time in Tanzania. The dry season (June to October) is a great time for wildlife viewing and coincides with the Great Migration river crossings in Northern Serengeti. Southern Serengeti (Ndutu) hosts the spectacular Wildebeest calving season from January to March which visitors can witness. The green season is from November to May, with lush landscapes, fewer crowds and fantastic birdwatching.

Most private safaris explore Tanzania's famous Northern Circuit, including Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Arusha National Park, and cultural experiences around Mto wa Mbu, Lake Natron, or Materuni Waterfalls depending on your itinerary.

A 5-8 day safari is perfect for visiting Tanzania’s most famous parks. For visitors to Zanzibar or those interested in cultural activities, we suggest a 10 to 14 day itinerary for a more relaxed and comprehensive East African experience.

Tanzania is home to the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino—as well as cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, jackals, hundreds of bird species, and many other fascinating animals depending on the season and location.

Yeah. Private safari packages normally include all park entrance fees, Ngorongoro Crater service fees, concession fees (if any), government taxes and conservation charges. Your quote will clearly lay out everything that is included.

Tanzania offers accommodation for every budget, including comfortable mid-range lodges, luxury safari lodges, exclusive tented camps, and ultra-luxury properties. Your accommodation can be customized according to your travel style and budget.

Sure. Private safaris are ideal for families as the itinerary can be adapted to suit the children’s interests, pace of travel and preferred activities. Many lodges also offer family rooms and child-friendly services.

We suggest lightweight, neutral-colored clothing, comfortable walking shoes, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent, and a light jacket for cool mornings. Bring a camera, binoculars, personal medications, and a small daypack. Soft-sided luggage is recommended, particularly if you will be travelling domestically by air.

Yes. Combining a Tanzania safari with Zanzibar is one of our most popular holiday packages. After exciting wildlife adventures, you can relax on Zanzibar's white-sand beaches, explore Stone Town, enjoy snorkeling, diving, spice tours, or simply unwind by the Indian Ocean.

Most international visitors need a tourist visa, which you can get either online or when you arrive, depending on what country you come from. Vaccination for Yellow Fever is only required if you are arriving from or transiting through a country with Yellow Fever transmission. We also recommend that you discuss malaria prevention with your health care provider before travelling.
